Scripture Readings - Isaiah 9:2; 6-7 and Zephaniah 3:14-20

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach. Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth. At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the LORD.

O Holy Night (Hear the Gospel Story)

Scripture Reading and Candle Lighting - Luke 2:1-16

The Word of the Lord:

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the

world should be registered. This was the first registration when

Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to

his own town.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth,

to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he

was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his

betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came

for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped

him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no

place for them in the inn.

And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field,

keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord

appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they

were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for

behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ

the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped

in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with

the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with

whom he is pleased!”

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds

said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that

has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went

with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.

This is the Word of God for people of God. Thanks be to God.

We light four candles for Advent. They mean Hope, Peace, Joy, and

Love. Tonight, we light this big white candle because Advent is over and

Christmas is here! The wait is over! Christ the Savior is

born!

Christmas Day

Worship Through Song

Corporate Reading- The Apostles' Creed

We believe in God the Father Almighty; Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

Born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried;

The third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven;

And sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy universal church; the communion of saints;

The forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

The First Noel

Corporate Reading - John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and

the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any

thing made that was made.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light

shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome

it.

This is the Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
