One of my favorite tools right now to help me spend time with the Lord is "She Reads Truth." It is a website and an app that you can get on your phone. There are different plans that last about two weeks and cover different books of the Bible or topics such as Hymns, Biblical hospitality, and Lent. The plans include scripture to read and then a short devotional to get you thinking. It also includes beautiful verse artwork that can be set as your home screen on your phone to help you memorize scripture. (The website is free, but some of the plans cost $1.99 if you download them on the app).
One of my favorite ways to study scripture is to read a passage and then answer three questions about it: What does this tell me about God? What does this show me about man? What does this teach me about me?
You can do this with a single verse or a larger portion of scripture. For example:
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." -1 John 4:10
What does this tell me about God? God loved us first. He shows us what love is by sending Jesus, his Son, to pay for our sins.
What does this show me about man? We sin. Because of God’s love for us Jesus was sacrificed to cover our sins.
What does this teach me about me? I am greatly loved by God.
I love to be reminded of simple truths of scripture by studying with this method.
Our relationship with the Lord is just that, a relationship. Time spent with Him in prayer and in His Word, the Bible, are primary ways to see that relationship grow in intimacy.
In order to give you some very practical examples of how to get started, we asked a few women to share different ways they spend time with the Lord.
This week you heard from Kim Smith.
