Good Friday

sermon notes

1. Sin is personal

The consequences of losing the doctrine of sin:

a) sin doesn’t exist

b) if sin doesn’t exist then God is unnecessary

c) without God Christianity/all spirituality then becomes about the self

2. Sin is consequential

Some exchanges sin makes in us...

a) rights instead of responsibilities

b) shame instead of guilt

c) quantity instead of quality

3. Sin is relational

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person-though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  -Romans 5:6–8

“The light of Christ reveals sin by the brightness of the redemption already accomplished.”  -Fleming Rutledge
