Men's Ministry of Grand Parkway
As men we live with pressure. To provide, to lead, to fix, to listen...you get the idea. If we are not careful these various pressures can wear us down and leave us with little hope of doing any of it. Once we give up we are forced to walk around the rest of our lives like it doesn't bother us. But it does, it never stops bothering us. Here at Grand Parkway our men's ministry is shaped by three core values which are designed to leverage us out of a place of inactivity and help us to redefine, reorient and refocus our lives around what matters most. When you attend a men's event you will hear, taste and see these values in the lives of those around you. We invite you to come experience these with us. By now I hope you are thinking, "Okay, so what are they?" Glad you asked...
Live from Joy, Lead by Example, Look for Opportunities
First, we believe as men we are called to live from a place, perspective and personal experience of joy. In John 17 we see Jesus preparing to go to the cross. He knows this is one of his last nights on this earth, His mission will soon be over and now He is praying for his followers. Part of his prayer that night was an explanation. For anybody who has ever wondered why Jesus taught like he did he explains, "But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak to the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves." Simply put, Jesus says that the reason he is saying these things is to fill us with joy. This joy is not a feeling as much as an understanding, an experience of God that we never get over. As men we are fueled by this reality. For many of us this is the first time we have understood that Jesus didn't come to remind us what a screw up we are and how He can't wait to lay the wood to us one day! He came so we would hear his teaching and be filled with a sovereign joy that propels us into the Life that is truly life.
Next, we believe that we are created to lead by example. People follow example not advice. That's why we open stuff, throw away the directions and figure it out! However, when it comes to life this pattern doesn't work. Many of us threw away God's directions years ago and we are still paying the price for it.
However, here at Grand Parkway, we are learning that because of grace we can start over. By reading the Directions we are seeing that we are capable of living lives our wives respect and our kids want to follow. Instead of raising our voice we are turning up the volume on our lives and our families are nourished by our example.
Finally we want to look for opportunities. Each of us are gifted in different ways but some of us have been practicing longer. By looking for the opportunity to speak a shaping word, help a friend or just be there, we are saying to God, "I want to be a part of what you are doing in this world. Please use me!" In Colossans 4:5 Paul says, "Conduct yourselves with wisdom towards outsiders, making the most of the opportunity." Most of us can recall a time when we missed an opportunity. That feeling usually sticks with us longer than we have words for. However, here at Grand Parkway we are learning that God hasn't given up on us so we are not free to give up on ourselves. Each day is ripe with opportunity and we are learning to look for and enjoy them.
None of us have arrived but the journey we are on is a good one and we have come to realize that we are not alone. We want to be a safe place for you to convert, connect and be compelled towards all God has for you. For more information on the Men's Ministry simply click here and we'll get in touch with you.
