Missions Philosophy at Grand Parkway
"No one has the right to hear the gospel twice, while there remains someone who has not heard it once." -- Oswald J. Smith
Why We Go
At the core of missions is the command by Jesus for His disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey all that He commanded (Matthew 28.19-20). Because it is a command of our Lord, at Grand Parkway, we believe missions is not an option for all Christians. We believe that God has empowered and equipped all believers to participate in at least one of three ways in missions: pray, send, or go.
God's Mission
God desires people from every tribe and nation to know Him, glorify and worship Him (Revelation 7:9-12). It has been His plan from the beginning that His people be actively involved in reaching the nations (Genesis 12:1-4). Before the very foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:9-10), God intended for believers, individually and His Church, to go to every tribe and nation (Acts 1:8).
The Plan
In some of His last words on earth, Jesus spoke to His followers about a very specific plan for them after He ascended back to Heaven. In Acts 1:8 He told them, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Based on this passage, we understand our calling in missions to be focused locally, nationally and internationally.
