“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit

orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

James 1:27

We believe the mission to the Sugar Land Health Care Center reflects the heart of what James was teaching in the verse above. The facility houses over 100 residents in varying levels of care and distress. As it turns out, God is bringing more people into His Kingdom through this mission. Staff members have also been given Bibles and have wept as they held them in their hands.

We’ve realized quickly that this isn’t just a “nice” thing to do. We are seeing people who are near the end of their life on earth being drawn to God’s Truth. We are seeing staff members drawn closer, residents come to the Lord, families ministered to as they watch their loved one laugh or sing or dance. It really is pure and undefiled religion. Sunday Services

Every Sunday at 1:30pm, teams from our church lead a service in the nursing home dining hall. The teams need more people. There are many roles to be filled, from rounding up the residents, escorting them to the dining hall, leading songs, teaching, sitting with the residents, reading Scripture, holding their hand, asking their name, praying with them, or escorting them back to their rooms. Your presence is what means the most and reminds them that they have not been forgotten by us or by God.

Craft Class

The first Tuesday of every month at 10am, a team from our church holds a craft class with the residents. You probably think you need to be crafty to take this on. Nothing could be further from right! They are simple crafts. The residents usually need some help completing them, but they gain much joy from the interaction with you.

Quarterly Theme Parties

Four times a year, we host a party at the nursing home. They are always fun and meaningful and leave a beautiful memory in the hearts of the residents and their family members. This is a simple way to get invested. Bring your whole family and be on mission together.
