"I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'" Revelation 7:9-10
Answering the Call in Central America
We have partnered with an organization named Answering the Call. It is an international mission organization devoted to reaching people with the Gospel in difficult to reach places. They focus on strategies that will train and send indigenous missionaries to the largely unreached 10/40 Window (more information about 10/40 Window at end of this report). ATC comes alongside ministers and leaders of other nations, encouraging and equipping them to minister in their own communities and surrounding countries. ATC also gives care and relief to the poor, orphans and needy. Currently, we are partnered with this mission in Central America. God gave ATC a vision for an Equipping Center, a safe place where pastors and church leaders working in difficult places throughout the world could be taught and trained. It is called Refugio Solte’, a place of refuge and to be released. The center will provide theological and practical training to people from all over the world, and be a place of rest and ministry.
We have discovered that the opportunities to take the Gospel to the “unreached” in Central America are beyond our comprehension. The team this summer did some work at the Equipping Center and travelled to a group of people who live on islands off the coast to bring the Gospel, medical supplies, a dental clinic, mosquito nets and God’s message that He sees them and remembers them. There are future plans to go to a group of people near the Equipping Center called by their own country, The Forgotten. They have no roads, schools or medical care and very little hope. May our prayer on their behalf be, “Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.” Psalm 10:12
We have also sent out our own missionaries to Central America, Bart and Heather Carty. To learn more about their ministry in Central America, click here.
South Asia
One of the ways God surprised us this past year was by allowing us to meet one of our missionary families as they were traveling through Texas on furlough. The Epleys have been in South Asia for almost five years. While they were in town, we hosted them for a luncheon after church. Hearing them share of their ministry and their dreams and prayers was a powerful experience for everyone who attended. When asked what their main need was right then for their ministry to open up, they replied, “We need a national intern, one who knows the area, knows the language, follows Jesus and has a heart for these people.” We were able to pay the entire annual salary for a national intern, $5,000. What God has done since then has been miraculous. Within months, they baptized 12 people and have baptized around 200 since and have formed many house churches. They have also faced physical beatings and yet joyfully carry on.
Our plan is to take a team of church members to South Asia. The invitation has been extended by the Epley’s. Pray that God would make His timing and purpose clear. Dates for this trip will be available Fall 2009.
